How do I get to Urban Zen?

We are on the outskirts of Swansea city centre, just 150 yards from the central bus station and not far off Oystermouth Road, we have railings that you can chain your bike to

 

Can I park my car at Urban Zen?

Urban Zen does not have its own car park but there is plenty of one hour and three hour on street parking in the roads surrounding us. There is a pay and display car park at the Grand Theatre just 150 yards from us. On the roads directly surrounding Urban Zen there is a mixture of Residents parking and one hour parking. Please respect the locals and chose the correct space for you. Just 100 yards away from us there is a free three hour parking zone (this includes streets such as Madoc Street and Argyle Street). We never have trouble parking, just turn up 5 minutes early.

 

Do I need to book for a class?

Yes, all classes need to be pre-booked and paid for. Some of the more popular classes sell out so we recommend early booking to avoid disappointment

 

How do I book a class?

We use an online booking system for our Yoga & movement classes and our workshops. You can access this either through the live schedule on our website or by clicking this link.

If you are using a smartphone then we suggest you download the free and easy to use app ‘MindBody Connect’ then search for ‘Urban Zen Yoga’. If it’s your first time then you will have to spend a couple of minutes setting up your account but once this is done you can book a class with just the click of a button.

 

Can I book a class for someone else?

Everyone needs to have their own account for insurance purposes. Once they have their own account it is then possible to book and pay for a friend or relative through the desktop version of the site (but not the app).

 

How much are classes?

All Yoga classes are £7 and movement classes are £6. Workshops are priced individually.

 

Are there discounts available?

We decided to keep our pricing simple and fair so there are no concessions. We do offer community classes that are by donation so you can pay what you can afford and the money goes to charity. Follow us on Social media to stay up to date.

 

What if I need to cancel a class?

You have up until 48 hours before the scheduled class time to cancel your class without any cost to yourself. Just log in to your account, go to your schedule and click ‘cancel’. The class pass will go back into your account for you to use again when it next suits you. Workshops are non-refundable.

 

Do I need to bring my own mat?

We provide all the equipment, including mats, you need for our classes in both studios. We regularly clean our mats. We do recommend that at some point you purchase a mat – it's just nice having your own mat which you get used to practicing on and simply more pleasant to have your own equipment.

 

What do I wear?

Some people wear baggy, loose fitting bottoms and a t shirt. Other people wear tight, stretchy leggings and tops. The only thing that matters is that you wear comfortable clothes that you can easily move and stretch in. In our Hot, Vinyasa and Ashtanga classes you will get sweaty so please bring a small towel to class.

 

Do you have changing facilities and showers?

Yes, we have men's and women's changing rooms and one shower in each. Of course the shower can get busy at peak times so we suggest only using it if necessary.

 

How do I book a treatment?

Treatments need to be booked directly with our therapists. You can find all of their contact details on our ‘Therapies’ page.

 

Can I eat at Urban Zen?

We do not have a café at the studio but we have a well-stocked vending machine with healthy and vegan snacks and drinks.

 

What time should I arrive for class?

Ideally we recommend that you arrive 5-10 minutes before your class to allow the previous class time to exit and to give you time to get settled before beginning.

 

What if I’m late?

We know, life happens, so we try and be flexible so that if you rush here and are one minute late we don't say "tough"! Generally a few minutes late is fine to still enter the class, but ultimately the teacher decides. If you're pregnant or coming to a baby class we say anytime is fine.

 

I have never been to a Yoga class before. Where do I start?

We currently have two dedicated beginners’ classes but many of our other classes are also highly recommended for beginners.

Is there an age limit for classes?

Urban Zen offers classes for babies through to seniors. We firmly believe that Yoga and movement practices are for everyone. They can be modified to suit all ages and levels of strength and fitness.

 

How do I choose the best class for me?

Our movement & exercise classes are self-explanatory and as long as you’ve read the class description you will know whether the class is for you. We appreciate that when starting on your Yoga journey it can feel like a minefield of strange names and weird terms so here is a very brief guide of what to expect: Vinyasa, Power, Ashtanga, Dynamic- classes with any of these words in the title are a more energetic style of class that incorporate strength as well as flexibility. We recommend you have a decent level of fitness when beginning these.

Hatha, Iyengar - classes are slightly slower paced and often more technical.

Hot Yoga - the room is heated to over 30 degrees and the Yoga practice is generally strong and dynamic. A decent level of fitness is required and also a good tolerance of heat.

Restorative, Yin - classes are gentler and of a slow pace. Restorative classes use props to support you in postures and Yin classes hold postures for several minutes. If you are just want to relax or you’re feeling low in energy but still want to get on your Yoga mat then these are a great choice.

 

Can I go to a class if I am pregnant?

You are encouraged to do yoga during Pregnancy for your health and the baby's health. Yoga and Pilates are excellent for Pregnancy on physical, emotional and mental levels. We offer specific Pregnancy Yoga classes or if you’ve been attending class prior to pregnancy and your teacher is happy for you to continue then you are welcome to do so with modifications.

 

Can I go to a class if I have an injury?

Yes and no! Without being facetious, it depends on the nature of the injury. Both yoga and other movement classes can be great for rehabilitation from injuries.

We advise that you speak to your teacher or email us and explain the situation then we can guide you. You must tell the teacher before the class of any injuries so they can help you adjust your practice.
